PROGRAM
OVERVIEW
Admission to the Juris
Doctor & Master of Health Administration (JD/MHA)
The dual degree in health administration and law is designed for students who
wish to pursue study in law as applied to issues in health care
settings. The dual degree leads to a Juris Doctorate and a Master of
Health Administration through an innovative and integrated curriculum to be
completed over a four-year period. The completion of this dual degree
will allow graduates to compete successfully for positions in the complex and
exciting health care field.
Admission Requirements

Meet admission
requirements to the Juris Doctor program in the School of Law

Meet admission
requirements to the Master of Health Administration program in The Arnold
School of Public Health
-
Be admitted to the dual
degree program; this is contingent upon acceptance by both schools into
the dual degree program

Be accepted into the USC
Graduate School
-
Have a bachelor’s degree
from a fully accredited college or university by the date of anticipated
enrollment
-
Demonstrate satisfactory
GRE or GMAT scores (Among accepted applicants for fall 2003, the mean GRE
scores were 466 verbal and 522 quantitative. Mean GMAT score total
was 490).

Complete the LSAT and
register with the Law School Admissions Council

Provide an official
transcript from each school or college previously attended

Submit three letters of
recommendation

Submit a detailed
statement of career goals and areas of interest

Submit an updated resume
-
International applicants
whose native language is not English are required to submit a satisfactory
score on the TOEFL or the University of Cambridge’s IELTS Academic
Course Type 2 exam. The minimum acceptable score on the TOEFL is 230
computer-based or 570 paper-based. The minimum acceptable overall
band score on the IELTS exam is 6.5.

Both degrees to be
completed within a maximum of four academic years.

Years 1 and 2 are devoted to
course work in the School of Law.

MHA work begins in the
summer session after Year 2.

Year 3 is devoted to work
in the MHA program.

Year 4 is devoted to a
combination of work in both programs.

Summer session after Year
3 is devoted to the MHA administrative residency requirement.

General Information

Any student holding the JD
or MHA degree is not eligible for admission to the dual degree program.

Failure to meet the
requisite academic standing requirements of either school during the
program precludes the
student’s continuation in the dual degree program.

The policy of the School
of Law is to select the best-qualified applicants with primary emphasis on
two factors:
the cumulative undergraduate GPA and performance on the LSAT.
