Professor Amidon received his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa in 1968.
Dr. Amidon is the Department's Associate Chair for Graduate Studies and Graduate Director. He has administrative responsibilty for student admissions, matriculation, and graduation.
Dr. Amidon continues to expand teaching from classroom to work environment. His initial health services management course is taught at Richland Memorial Hospital, and he has begun to hold classes in his long-term care administration course at the Capital Senior Center.
In August, 1995, Dr. Amidon reported on the progress and plans for Palmetto Senior Care in a paper delivered at the "Geriatric Update" at St. John's College, Cambridge University. In association with others, he co-authored "Predictors of Quality of Care in Nursing Homes," accepted for publication by the Journal of Long-Term Care Administration. He has been named to the National Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators, and is listed in the first edition of Who's Who in Medicine and Health Care. For the second year, he served as a referee for the Association of Schools of Public Health ASPH/CDC Internship Program. He is the USC faculty representative to the South Carolina Gerontology Consortium.
